A few months ago, we (as part of Fancy) were employed by Nosy Crow, a brand new children’s publisher, to produce a video trailer for their very first publication, Small Blue Thing by S.C. Ransom. Published two days ago, Small Blue Thing is a paranormal romance about the love between seventeen year-old Alex and Callum, a gorgeous ghost who drowned in the Fleet river.
First, we read the novel, then we created the storyboard and script and once those were approved, David, Ed and Jade began work. It’s quite unusual for a book trailer to have so much live action, but the book itself has such film potential that it was entirely appropriate, so as well as scouting for locations, suitable actors and costumes had to be found. After filming the external locations in London, the interior scenes and voice over were completed near the studio in Frome.
Everyone on the team worked incredibly hard and we’re very pleased with the result and better yet, it seems that the clients are pleased too. View the trailer below and if you like it, you can buy the book at Amazon.
As the author, I can tell you that I’m delighted! I only got to see the script in advance and had no idea what the rest was going to be like so it was fantastic to see it for the first time on publication day. The only disappointment was that my daughter wasn’t able to play Alex in the trailer – but you got her exactly right. I hope you’ll be able to do another when the next one in the trilogy is out. S.C.
