National Trust Advent Calendar
Monday ~ December 12, 2007 by admin Posted in Design, Web, Our Sites
We’re delighted and very proud to have worked for The National Trust this Christmas. We’ve created them an Advent Calendar, the tricky bit was the coding so only the door for the right date can be opened. The image we were given was actually taken during the daytime, but a little photoshoppery, and some animated stars, gave the impression of late dusk, making a more magical, and Christmassy image. The great news is, there’s a new competition for you to enter every day! Get on over to http://www.adventcalendar.org.uk to see our work, but also to enter the competition.

Do Small Firms Really Need a Website?
Wednesday ~ November 11, 2007 by admin Posted in This and That
An interesting article here at the BBC about small firms and websites. It highlights something that we’ve always said at Espace Solutions, a website is a part of your business and marketing strategy, not a be-all-and-end-all solution. That’s why we take the time to learn about your company and your aims in order to ensure we can communicate them fully from the web presence we provide. The article suggests that: “Communicating with potential influencers is important for every business, even if you are a local fish and chip shop”. Yet only about half of the U.K.s small to medium size businesses have any web presence at all. With increasing rents and business charges in town centres, many companies are starting up on the outskirts of towns, or in less frequented areas. Without a constant footfall to drive business, these companies are increasingly turning to the web. The article gives the startling example of Wiggly Wigglers who started off selling worm composters in a village of under a hundred houses, turning over £6000 in 1995, which surged to £200,000 in 1999 when they went online. Now they command a turnover of £2.5 million and a global presence. Heather Gorringe, chairman and founder of Wiggly Wigglers, says: “Growing a brand globally has helped sales locally” Wiggly Wigglers have a fairly simple site, but they have been very clever in their marketing and their grasp of new technology, particularly the way it impacts on people’s buying habits. The article is well worth a read.
Rode Artworks

An artists’ collective based in Rode, Somerset. We also designed them a poster and a flyer, the website was based on our original design for the poster and uses the logo we created. Although there is plenty of colour on the site, reflecting the artistic nature of the collective, the design is uncluttered and retains an air of sophistication. The result is a friendly but professional site.Visit here.

Animoto

Browsing the web this morning I stumbled on a very useful site by the name of Animoto. Its a site which lets you load up a series of photographs before selecting a soundtrack. It then takes just a couple of minutes for the site to produce a stunning video based on the content you provided. Once more, despite having the same photographs and soundtrack, no two videos will be the same. Go check it out.
